Ultrasound

Look inside for the peace of mind you need.

Ultrasound is a quick, safe, and non-invasive way to see what’s going on in your body. It uses high frequency sound waves to visualize many structures in the body and can detect abnormalities without the use of radiation or contrast dye.

It can help assess muscle and tendon injuries, check for inflammation or tumours, check on the growth and well-being of your baby, and detect disease in the arteries and veins.

Our Siemens Acuson Ultrasound Machine is the latest in ultrasound equipment with high-resolution imaging and our large, private ultrasound room will make you feel comfortable and relaxed.

What is Ultrasound?

Diagnostic ultrasound is an imaging method that uses sound waves to produce images of structures within the body. Other names for an ultrasound scan include a sonogram or (when imaging the heart) an echocardiogram.

It’s quick and safe and has a remarkable ability to visualize soft tissues, such as organs and muscles. The advantage of ultrasound is it’s a noninvasive imaging test that uses no radiation or contrast dye. It can also be completed much faster than a CT scan or MRI.

What Can Ultrasound Detect?

Ultrasound images can be used to provide more accurate information and treatment options for a variety of diseases and conditions, including:

  • Breast Ultrasound to detect cancer

  • Testicular scans to detect tumours

  • Rule out tendon, ligament and muscle injuries and assess joints for inflammation

  • Abdominal pain

  • Diagnose gallbladder disease

  • Evaluate blood flow

  • Examine a breast lump

  • Check the thyroid gland

  • Check on the growth and well-being of your baby

  • Detect disease in the arteries and veins
